| University of Bath | The University of Bath has a very high regard for the Welsh Baccalaureate, and Admissions Tutors are aware of the range of skills and qualities which it develops in school students and of the additional work which it demands. Offers may be made in terms of the Advanced Diploma (the Core plus two A levels or equivalent) or with an additional Optional Subject (the Core plus three A levels or equivalent). Please contact the Admissions Tutor or Admissions Office for details. |
| University of Birmingham |
Although our requirements are based on the standard curriculum followed in England, Wales and Northern Ireland, in practice we accept many types of UK or international qualifications. If your qualifications differ from those mentioned here, please contact either the Admissions Tutor of the programme that interests you or the Undergraduate Admissions Office for advice. General entry requirements: You will need one or more of the following:
|
| University of Cambridge | We welcome applications from students taking the Advanced Diploma in the Welsh Baccalaureate. Applicants will be expected to have studied three subjects to A level as part of their qualification. |
| University of Exeter | The University of Exeter recognises and welcomes the Welsh Baccalaureate Advanced Diploma (WBAD) in terms of satisfying its entry requirement for entry to an undergraduate degree programme. The University welcomes the breadth of learning and the range of skills offered by the award and supports the 120 point score allocated to the core by the UCAS tariff, and will make offers taking that into account. The University considers all information on the UCAS form in order to determine who merits an offer and where appropriate the level of offer, and in this respect the offer may be expressed in terms of UCAS tariff points but also require specific grades at A level or equivalent qualifications. Hence candidates offering the qualification will normally be required to pass the WBAD including 2 A levels or equivalent qualifications at specific grades |
| Goldsmiths College, University of London | Goldsmiths recognises the Welsh Baccalaureate core as equivalent to one A-level. We would prefer to receive applications from students who have completed the overarching award, but will consider on their individual merits those who have passed the core and other 3 and 6 unit awards. |
| University of Hull | The University of Hull welcomes applications from students studying the Welsh Baccalaureate Advanced Diploma and recognises the breadth of education and diversity of learning experiences. Where a typical offer is normally based upon completion of three GCE A levels, Core Studies of the Welsh Baccalaureate will be regarded as one A level and attract 120 points on the UCAS tariff (provided one of the two Advanced level subjects is not General Studies). Essential subject prerequisites will apply as for entry with GCE A level. |
| University of Kent | The University will consider the Welsh Bac. for admissions purposes as part of the wider UCAS tariff. We will continue to review the development of the qualification with interest and how this articulates with our general admissions criteria. As such it will be added to our list of acceptable admissions qualifications and given the same prominence in our publications as that given to Scottish and Irish qualifications. |
| University of Newcastle upon Tyne | We welcome applications from candidates offering the Welsh Baccalaureate Advanced Diploma, and applicants offering this qualification are considered on an individual basis. Offers will be made in terms of achievement of the Advanced Diploma plus specified subjects and grades in the Options. |
| University of Nottingham | The University of Nottingham welcomes applications from students offering the WBQ and all our admissions staff have been informed about the qualification. Our entry requirements for most courses have been listed on the UCAS website and can be accessed through the course search. Generally we would be asking for a pass in the qualification as a whole and then specific grades in two or three A-level subjects (depending on what subjects are required for the particular degree course). |
| University of Manchester | The University of Manchester welcomes applications from students offering the Welsh Baccalaureate and, in line with the position taken by QCA and UCAS, offers will be phrased to include a pass in the core which will generally be considered in lieu of achievement in a third A level subject. In rare cases where more than two subject specific prerequisites exist, a pass in the core will be required in addition to the specified subjects. (For example, Dental Surgery requires the study of Chemistry, Biology and one other science, where one of Chemistry or Biology may be at AS level; applicants offering the WBQ would also be asked for a pass in the core.) Our admissions requirements are regularly reviewed in the light of experience, teaching and curriculum developments and changes in the pre-university sector, and applicants are advised to consult our Entry Profiles on www.ucas.ac.uk for the latest information. |
| University of Oxford |
The minimum entry requirement for students studying the Welsh Baccalaureate Qualification Advanced Diploma will be two A grades at A-level alongside the Core Certificate at Level 3. It may be the case that some colleges will require candidates to take three A-levels in addition to the Core Certificate. Students should note that the University is reviewing all its standard offers for 2007/2008 onwards as part of the implementation of its new Common Framework. Further details at http://www.admissions.ox.ac.uk/news/common_framework.shtml This means that candidates starting the Welsh Bac this autumn may find that the entry requirements for Oxford have changed by the time they a ready to apply. |
| University of Warwick | Welsh Baccalaureate: Applicants will typically be required to pass the core plus achieve the grades listed for A level in the 'Typical Offers' section of each course, in a further 18 units of advanced study. Candidates who are unable to fulfil this requirement are advised to contact the Student Admissions Office before submitting an application. Applicants should also ensure that they are able to meet the essential subject requirements for their chosen course. |
| University of the West of England | Bristol UWE welcomes applications from students studying the WBQ Advanced qualification because it offers an excellent preparation in a range of skills linked to subject specific knowledge. Bristol UWE frames all offers using UCAS tariff points and will include tariff points awarded for the WBQ in its offers. |
