Standards Site
The site of the Standards and Effectiveness Unit (SEU) of the DfES. It provides updated information and materials on major issues relating to the improvement of standards in schools.

Innovation Unit
Commencing in September 2002, this unit for the DfES has the task of helping to encourage innovation to happen throughout the school system. It aims to create a resource that all schools can draw upon and will provide funding for innovative ideas. Currently an interim website is accessible.

Teachernet
This site is run for the DfES by its Schools Communications Unit and provides teachers with detailed information on teaching and learning resources, school management, professional development, educational research. There is also an overview of the Government’s strategy for schools in England.Includes an ‘Ask the Expert’ service which enables teachers to ask questions about professional development and Government plans for schools.

National Curriculum in Action
This is a Qualifications and Curriculum Authority (QCA) website that shows how the National Curriculum works in practice. It uses pupils’ work and case study material. It highlights the standard of pupils’ work at different ages and key stages as well as showing how the programmes of study translate into real activities. It is designed for teachers and senior managers working in schools.

Becta
Provides information, advice and dialogue relating to ICT in education for the schools and FE sectors. The site includes case studies, examples of good practice together with practical guidance on using ICT within the curriculum and for administration. Becta is the British educational Communications and Technology agency and is a major source of information on ICT in schools.

Teacher Training Agency (TTA)
The TTA site is for those interested in becoming teachers, practicing teachers and teacher trainers. It provides news of developments and events, information and guidance and resources. It also has materials and information on how teachers can use ICT to support their teaching.

Basic Skills Agency
The official site of the national development organisation for literacy and numeracy in England and Wales. The site includes details of all the resources they publish together with an online ordering facility. Details of the Agency’s programmes, news and events and current research are also provided.

QCA is the ‘guardian of standards in education and training’ in England. Its official site provides access to information on national qualifications, curriculum and assessment, research and statical information and QCA publications.
