Diamante poems
Ffocysau Pellach: Arfer myfyriol, Cwricwlwm Cymreig , DMaAGD,
How was it used?
Moving to a more thematic way of learning, we have been looking at ways of incorporating effective English activities into our topics; this unit is based on Celts and Romans.
Using the above resource to introduce this type of poetry, I was able to reinforce understanding of vocabulary types as well as focusing on children’s opinions and thoughts of Romans and Celts (which in turn led to interesting discussions and proving / disproving stereotyped views!)
Impact and Outcomes
The work contributed towards the development of critical thinking skills.
Children worked well in groups of various sizes, collaborating effectively.
They took turns more easily, showing greater respect for the work of others.
Students were able to reflect on what they had learnt in their History topic using the poetry style introduced in these lessons.
