DRAFT  'MUSIC  MANIFESTO'  FOR  WALES

Every young person should:

  • have a minimum entitlement to a broad range of musical experiences from the foundation phase onwards.
  • have opportunities to deepen and broaden their musical interests and skills.
  • have opportunities to develop particular talents and skills to the highest possible standard.

To facilitate this there should be:

  • a broad range of musical opportunities, through a variety of providers.
  • a flexibility of approach to cater for the diverse interests of young people.
  • a prescribed curriculum that integrates these diverse experiences, and recognises the musical achievements of young people both in the classroom and beyond.

This should be supported by:

  • sufficient funding to ensure the resourcing and staffing of this manifesto.
  • a structured programme of staff development for those involved in the delivery of musical provision to young people

The outcome of this will be:

  • a first class workforce in music and music education.
  • a creative workforce with a wide range of transferable skills.
  • a generation of young people who are 'team players', skilful communicators, and who are diligent, confident, and well balanced.

Your response to the above draft would be greatly appreciated. Kindly email your views or suggestions to a CAGAC representative.
