CAGAG CURRICULUM GROUP MEETING

January 24th 2006

  1. A level Music Technology was discussed, and a working party is to be established to develop guidance materials regarding the type and range of resources need as a minimum requirement if schools are to deliver the specification.
  2. Consideration was given as to whether or not CAGAC should again organise a conference for 2008, and whether or not this should be in Cardiff or North Wales.
  3. CAGAC decided to continue with the Young Composer of Wales competitions. Schools will be contacted and information will be published on the CAGAC website.
  4. Further development of the CAGAC website was discussed, with a view to making it a genuinely useful website for Music teachers in Wales.
  5. CAGAC met with Gareth Adams (Estyn) and Lindsey Vandstone, (who has a recruitment role, linked to the Welsh Assembly Government) to discuss the recruitment and retention of music teachers, given that music is now an identified shortage subject. This meeting followed a meeting with GTCW. Data provided by GTCW was shared.
