St Fagans: National History Museum is one of the world’s best loved open-air museums. Set in over a hundred acres of parkland, it tells the stories of the peoples of Wales. Original buildings have been moved from different parts of Wales and re-erected at the Museum. Traditional craftsmen work in the re-erected workshops and mills and the Museum’s fields are home to a range of native live stock.
National Waterfront Museum Swansea tells the story of how industry and innovation have affected the lives of people in Wales over the last 300 years. The latest interactive, multi-media technology, mixed with real everyday objects help bring the industrial Revolution to life.
National Roman Legion Museum lies on the site of Caerleon’s ancient Roman fortress, famed for the most complete amphitheatre in Britain and the only visible remains of Roman legionary barracks in Europe. The Museum runs a programme of special events throughout the year to help bring the Romans to life.
National Wool Museum at Dre-fach Felindre is housed in the old Cambrian Mills, once the centre of a thriving Welsh woollen industry. The Museum tells the story of an industry that produced shirts and shawls, blankets and bedcovers and woollen stockings that were sold in local markets, clothed the workers of Wales and exported around the world.
Big Pit: National Coal Museum takes you on an authentic underground tour of a real coalmine. Winner of the Gulbenkian Prize for Museum of the Year in 2005, the Museum has a wide range of experiences to captivate the whole family. Big Pit gives a fascinating insight into the coal industry and communities in Wales.
National Slate Museum is housed in the Industrial Victorian workshops that once serviced and maintained the enormous Dinorwig slate quarry above it. From strikes and suffering to craftsmanship and community, this is your opportunity to glimpse into the lives of the slate workers and their families.
