WAG SEN

These materials aim to improve the understanding of knowledge of teachers working with pupils who have SEN and raise awareness of the factors involved in developing an inclusive school. It will develop participants’ understanding of the four categories of SEN as described in the SEN Code of Practice for Wales (2002) and assist them to develop professional responses to a diverse range of individual learning needs in the context of identification, assessment and planning; maximising curriculum access; differentiated teaching and learning; enlisting collaborative working practices; promoting positive social and emotional development and behaviour.

The course materials are subtitled in both Welsh and English to assist participants with a hearing impairment.

On-line provision enables students to study at a time and a place that is convenient to them. As an E-learning package, the course can normally be accessed from home, a Higher Education Institute, Local Education Authority ICT Centre or a school and maybe followed on an individual basis or with

a group of teachers. Tutorial support is offered by participating HEIs for enrolled students seeking accreditation.

Interested teachers who wish to undertake an accredited course will need to enrol with a providing HEI in Wales.

Other teachers working in Wales and wishing to use the course materials for training purposes are able to access them free of charge via the National Grid for Learning (NGfL).
