E-mailing book reviews

Email book reviewOutline of the activity
Children write book reviews and e-mail them to other schools. They then print these out together with the book reviews they receive and make them into a book showing their collection of reviews.

Skills Covered
To select and evaluate a story read analysing its content for information, quality and enjoyment. To type this information in written form onto the computer. Save to disk and copy and paste. Send and receive e-mails.

Rationale
Writing book reviews is part of the Literacy Time in English so exchanging book reviews with other schools adds another dimension. It shows similar and different preferences in reading material of children from other schools and it encourages reading of ‘new’ books. New contacts are made and children are given the experience of sending and receiving e-mails.

Result
Children send and receive book reviews as e-mails. They are printed out and put into a class book for them to read in the classroom as a stimulus for them to read the books reviewed by other children.
