Forest Giants

The Forest GiantsOutline of the activity
The children were using “Dazzle” to create their own ‘Forest Giants.

Skills Covered
The children were developing their mouse control skills.  They were experimenting using the different tools that were available on “Dazzle”.  They had to select their own colours, shapes and effects to create their ‘giant’ in the best way they possibly could. They were taught the skills of ‘dragging’ and ‘highlighting’ specific areas.  As they were working through the program they were constantly being prompted to discuss their choices, therefore developing their creative language.

Rationale
This lesson was a valuable tool to aide discussion amongst a class with very limited vocabulary.  The use of IT was in itself very simple, but the results produced an instant source of display and creative thinking.

Result
Firstly the pupils were delighted to see their ‘giants’ on screen; they were then printed and placed alongside the class display.  Each child was asked to discuss their pieces of work.  The teacher then scanned the pupil’s favourite parts of the book into the computer alongside their own creations.  As each child talked about their giants, the teacher typed in their responses.
