Abstract Poetry By using a DTP package, pupils were able to experiment with the language they used and vary the presentation of their poems.
An author visits Using stimuli from the author Jenny Sullivan, pupils find creative ways of developing their writing and presenting it to others.
Bear e-mail Pupils e-mail the bear to ask him to return to their classroom.
Bear stories After reading the story small groups paint pictures for display. Older pupils create stories on the computer while younger pupils draw pictures on a storyboard.
Branching stories Groups of 4 children planned, developed and wrote their own interactive branching stories.
Christmas newsletters Children are preparing a short newsletter telling their parents of some of their activities in school. Here the children are focusing on some charitable collections they have made for children in Kosovo.
Class news Pupils write a Class Newspaper as a result of studying Newspaper Reports during their Literacy time. They work as a team and allocate jobs as if they work in a Newspaper Office.
Class reading survey Following visits by a storyteller organised by the local library the children devised a questionnaire to investigate their reading habits and then entered the data collected into a computer database.
Comic strip storyboard The children had previously written a play script with a theme of classroom bullying. They were asked to adapt the play script to create a comic strip storyboard presentation of their plays using a digital camera and Powerpoint/Word to create a sequence of slides
E-mailing book reviews Children write book reviews and e-mail them to other schools. They then print these out together with the book reviews they receive and make them into a book showing their collection of reviews.
Fact and opinion Children understand the terms fact and opinion and are able to identify the differences between them.
Forest Giants Having read the book as part of the Literacy Hour, the children used an art package to create their own giants.
Forest Giants slideshow Following previous work on the Forest Giants story, pupils created a moving storybook, adding images, text and sound.
Interesting insects Year 6 pupils combine internet research with desktop publishing to produce information sheets on their chosen insect.
Letters to Santa Pupils write letters to Father Christmas online at www.northpole.com to tell him what they would like for Christmas and a few days later they receive a reply.
Moving poetry Using the Swish program, pupils experiment not only with font, colour and size but also motion.
Mumbles project This project aimed to use story writing to develop activities in the Foundation subjects and Cwricwlwm Cymreig.
Myths and legends The teacher used a Powerpoint presentation to identify the features of Myths and legends and to give children ideas and instructions for writing their own. The children then drafted their stories on to the computer using Microsoft Word.
Our supermarket visit Children create a report sequencing images, captured using a digital camera, and write about events from a class visit to a local supermarket.
Owl Babies The pupils were reading Owl Babies as their Big Book. They created their own stories using Storybook Weaver.
Plot a story Children analyse their own and other s stories to identify the main events. They plot a graph on a scale one to ten to show where the story peaks in excitement.
Puppet exchange This cross-curricular activity included e-mail, design technology, geographical and historical awareness, language and mathematical skills.
River poem A year 5 class investigates the effective use of adjectives in poetry and then creates new versions using a range of facilities afforded by the word processor.
Spellings Year 4 pupils create a Powerpoint presentation to help them to check their spelling of specific words.
Spellings into sentences Pupils use a PowerPoint template, enter their sentences and choose appropriate clipart from the Internet.
The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe The class collaborates to create a story with pictures using Story book Weaver
The little red hen As part of their literacy activities children drew a scene from one of their shared stories. They selected a character and added speech for that character.
The little yellow chicken Reception pupils chose their favourite characters and produced language-linked artwork.
Talking stories Year 6 pupils developed their writing skills and were able to create linked multimedia pages using the tools available in Primary Writer.
The Titanic The children extend their ICT and literacy skills via the theme of The Titanic, surfing the internet for information and e-mailing experts.
Todays news on line Children log on to a news site on the WWW and create a sheet for display and discussion.
Using a word bank Pupils write their own story following a model. They add words and pictures from a bank.
Wacky Web Tales The children were using the internet to support their creative writing and grammar lessons.
William Shakespeare Year 3 pupils use Powerpoint to deliver a presentation to the class.
Writing a story The pupils were working with an Author in Residence. to create their own poems. Some of the children presented their work in the form of a moving storybook.
