Investigating cooling
Ouline of the activity
The children used temperature sensors and the ‘Sensing Science’ software to investigate how different materials of containers affected cooling times of hot drinks.
Skills Covered
This investigation allowed children to develop, planning, hypothesising and communicating skills. Children were able to analyse and interpret data and graphs, evaluate and report their findings and test their ideas.
Rationale
Many scientific investigations involve taking measurements. Using sensors to monitor what happens during a science investigation brings a new dimension to science for children
Result
The children developed a range of scientific enquiry and practical skills as well as developing key communication skills and mathematical skills e.g. evaluating the line graphs produced
