Outline of the activity
The children had been looking at pulse rates as part of their science lessons and had collected a lot of data. The teacher decided that this would be a good context for the introduction of spreadsheets, as it lent itself to the input of different statistics.
Skills Covered
The children learned how to input data into cells, edit cells, change text size and colour and create a graph from data. They also learned the new vocabulary involved in using spreadsheets.
Rationale
The teacher wanted to introduce spreadsheets. This activity allowed the teacher to link the use of spreadsheets to an existing topic with which the children were confident.
