Age of Princes

Main foci: DTaAfL, Curriculum Cymreig,
Secondary foci: Literacy Skills,

How was it used?

This is an adaption of a resource already on the NGfL Cymru website that adds more thinking activities and extends the resource across the curriculum, making it a more thematic approach to the topic.

The topic was The Age of Princes, a new addition to the Key Stage 2 History Curriculum, which has few resources available to teachers as yet. The series of images build into a logical framework that can be dipped into, to help develop skills across the curriculum as well as addressing the requirements of the skills framework.

Impact and Outcomes

  • These activities encourage pupils to work in groups to ask questions that will help them complete the tasks.
  • The theme of Welsh History is one that used to be seldom covered – this allows the opportunity to learn about the people and events that shaped modern day Wales.

The many opportunities for speaking and listening by working as part of a group or using talking partners meant that the pupils oracy skills improved.

Lesson Learnt

I used this for my Year 3/4 class. I liked the fact that not all of the resources were simply history resources but that I could use the activities within my art lesson etc too
